It’s exciting to be able to bring you news of another fabulous project that Martello are working on for English Rural Housing Association (ERHA). ‘Goldfield’ is a development of four affordable housing units (two 2 bedroom houses and two 1 bedroom flats) in the village of Warehorne near Ashford in Kent.
Martello have been appointed as Employer’s Agent and CDM Principal Designer for the scheme, working with architect OSG Architecture Ltd, civil engineers Considine Limited, and Principal Contractor BW May & Son.
English Rural Housing Association is a specialist provider of community-led, affordable rural homes and Martello have worked on a number of other projects for ERHA delivering much needed homes to often overlooked rural communities, such as a scheme in Bethersden. The properties will be for affordable rent to local people with a proven connection to the parish of Warehorne. This is the second scheme that English Rural HA has developed for the village – they also own and manage four bungalows in Hardens View.
The Warehorne scheme is being built on a greenfield exception site, which was previously an agricultural field in Church Road on the edge of Warehorne Village. The use of red stock brick with black weatherboarding, grey UPVC windows and red plain tile roofing will ensure that the properties are in keeping and match the architectural style of the rural setting.
Martello Managing Director, Andy Cruttenden says, “It’s great to be working with English Rural HA on another innovative and much-needed rural housing scheme. The properties will benefit from the use of modern, green technologies including air source heat pumps rather than gas heating, and the well-designed landscaping of the area and use of appropriate materials will ensure that the properties are a natural and welcome addition to the village of Warehorne.”
Due for completion by the end of November 2019, we look forward to bringing you some updates from our site visits and a case study of the finished scheme at the end of the year.
