Martello were appointed to undertake Employer’s Agent, Quality Site Inspection and CDM Principal Designer services by English Rural. We have worked with English Rural Housing Association on a number of projects previously and were excited to be able to work on another rural scheme, so close to our offices in Folkestone.

Working with Principal Contractor Breem Construction, the project was completed on 31st October 2023.

The project consisted of a small development of three affordable homes for rent, in Newington, a small hamlet near Folkestone. The properties included two x 2 bedroom flats and one x 2 bedroom house, with their own private gardens and parking. The properties had air source heat pumps installed to provide heating and hot water.

The project also included the associated works for a self-build plot, which is to be sold by English Rural Homes Ltd, to cross subsidise the affordable homes.

The name, Beargarden Cottages, was chosen by the local Parish Council, to include some local history, as a map of the village from 1907 showed there was previously a wood nearby called Beargarden Wood, removed for the channel tunnel.
