Martello were contracted by Folkestone & Hythe District Council to act as Project Coordinators for the replacement roof and pool liner for the Hythe Swimming Pool, as well as some electrical improvements and new lighting.
We sourced a specialist 14mm thick polycarbonate click-fix material for the roof from Brett Martin – this type of covering has been used before on retrofit roofing for swimming pools and is lightweight, has effective solar-reflective properties and is a good insulator. Martello worked with Breem Construction on a labour-only based contract, to fit the roof and Emerald Electrical for the electrical and lighting work – both Kent based businesses. We also worked with UK Scaffolding for a complex birdcage scaffold build set within the pool void itself.
Due to the limited budget for the project, we took a construction management approach, appointing sub-contractors directly in lieu of the more traditional approach, in order to minimise the costs for a project of this size. It was also important that the project was completed to a tight deadline of the school summer holidays, as the pool is such an important community asset, in particular, for local schools. The project was delivered on time and to budget ready for the the local school returning from the summer break.
